Revlon Iced Silver

Another weekend manicure to show you guys :)

Revlon Iced Silver:

Revlon Iced Silver, outdoor, shade

Revlon Iced Silver, outdoor, sun

Revlon Iced Silver, indoor, natural light

Revlon Iced Silver is a bright warm white-silver. This color is awesome 'cause its so flashy and eye-catching, and I like me some flashy nails! :D Unfortunately, the application was a nightmare! Thick, STREAKY AS HECK, and showing every little imperfection on my nails (where I was...uh...sorta peeling my nail polish off...hehe. I KNOW! SIN!! Can't help it near the end of the week though :[) this polish made me so frustrated, but I figured the awesome color was worth it. It was. Barely. Opaque in two coats but I did three, thinking that it would help with the streakiness. It didn't. Though it did help with the dents.

I  am quite emotionally ambivalent about Revlon polishes. Occasionally, I find a cool-looking one, but in general they just don't have that many unique colors. Also the formula tends to be more of a miss than a hit. I mean I absolutely LOVE some of my Revlon polishes, but most of them are either too sheer or too thick or just plain ugly on my nails. And I think I remember that they take a pretty long time to dry, but I can't really say because I don't wait for my nail polish to dry (like I used to...ahh the days of 5-hour manicures...) before slapping on a quick-drying top coat.

How do you feel about Revlon polishes? Like or dislike?

Revlon polishes are available at drugstores for about $5.

Little thing to smile for today: flashy nails! :D

(Mostly) Nail polish haul :D

*Deep breath*. Hi, my name is Ruthe and I am a shopaholic.

Yes, I did it again. I went shopping and impulsively bought a bunch of nail polish. Again. Eh, what's new :P.

So I got a bunch of drugstore nail polishes as well as some Zoya nail polishes that came in the mail yesterday (first order from Zoya.com! :D). I also got a mascara and eyeliner (it came with the mascara; love it when companies do that! :D)

This is random, but I think I'm in a really strong *blue phase*. Of course, I always love blue stuff because my favorite color is blue/teal/turquoise (any of those colors, lol ;P), but I think I've been really obsessive about blue makeup lately. Anways, back to the haul...

Drugstore stuff:

From left: Scherer Chameleon Blue Sky, Sinful Colors Love Bite, Sinful Colors See You Soon

Blue Sky is a really pretty blue-turquoise duochrome. I've heard some bad reviews about the formula of this polish, but it was so pretty I couldn't pass it up! I'm also really excited about the Sinful Colors polishes; these are my first! I've heard really good things about Sinful Colors, so I totally can't wait to try them out!

Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Jumpin' Jade
Just saying, why would they name this color *jade*?? When I think of jade, this isn't the color that comes to mind...

Sally Hansen Color Quick nail color pen in Gold Chrome
Decided to try one of these things out. Unfortunately, I have a feeling that I'm gonna regret buying this...

Revlon 3D Extreme Mascara in Blackest Black and Revlon Colorstay Eyeliner in Teal

Now for the Zoya polishes (*eeeeeee!!!*) <(squealing in excitement!!!):

From left: Zoya Charla, Zoya Isla, Zoya Nidhi
Oh my effing GAWD!!!!!!! ('scuse my French :P) I freakin LOVE these!! I mean seriously, do you see the amazing glitter in Charla and Nidhi?!? And Isla is just SUCH a pretty red! I know a lot of people think reds are either too boring/old or too flashy, but I LOVE them!! Reds are my go-to polish color :D! Oh yeah, and I know I'm really late joining the mermaid-blue polish trend from 2010 (with Zoya Charla, OPI Catch Me In Your Net, and Orly Halley's Comet). (See a great comparison here: http://www.all-you-desire.com/2010/08/orly-halleys-comet-vs-opi-catch-me-in.html)

I really love Zoya polishes, but I seriously HATE their website/customer service! First of all, these three beauties took 18 DAYS to get here!! That is seriously ridiculous!! It doesn't take 18 DAYS for three bottles of nail polish to ship from Ohio to California! I don't know if this is normal for Zoya orders or if there was a problem with my order or something (if there was, they should have at least notified me!) but it seriously pissed me off. And then when I tried to contact them using the *Live Chat* feature on their website (I would have emailed them, but they didn't even have a customer service email listed online!) it said that they were *offline* and to leave a message. So I did try to leave a message, but then the website just glitched on me! The website also glitched on me about 10 times when I was actually placing my order 2 weeks ago! Ugh, so stupid :(. I'm SO gonna stick with buying Zoya polishes in stores from now on, like I did with my first Zoya.

Have you ordered from Zoya.com? Did you have trouble with your order too?

Scherer Chameleon polishes are available at drugstores for about $3.
Sinful Colors nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $2.
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $5.
Sally Hansen Color Quick nail color pens are available at drugstores for about $9.
Revlon 3D Extreme mascara is available at drugstores for about $10.
Zoya nail polishes are available for about $7 at zoya.com and in select stores.

Little thing to smile for today: pretty pretty pretty polishes!! :D

Survey time! :D

1. How are you today? Really good, actually. Happy and relaxed, mostly because of the AMAZING weather! Love the sun and blue sky today :D

2. Currently craving?
Pizza! Yummy, gooey cheese...mmm...

3. Eyeshadow(s) of the day: I don't wear eyeshadow on a daily basis. I know, I'm such a party pooper :(.

4. Would you wear sequined leggings? Umm...probably not because 1) I don't do leggings and 2) I'm too self-conscious about my legs to have sequins attract any more attention to them. But I can imagine that sequined leggings would look great on other people, though :)

5. What’s on your nails? Same manicure from my last post: Almay Good Apple. By the way, this polish is SO long lasting! It's been about 6 days and there is NO chipping, just some tip wear. Awesomeness!! :D

Your turn! Copy, paste, and answer in the comments:

e.l.f. Products Review

Today I decided that my new e.l.f. products (from this haul) have been just sitting in their box for a little too long. So I decided to try out the Mineral Booster and two of the brushes.

First up is the Mineral Booster, which I got in Sheer and in the large size:

e.l.f. Mineral Booster with packaging

e.l.f. Mineral Booster open

To start off, the Mineral Booster had this absolutely heinous sticker on top of the holes (as all loose powders do) that was RIDICULOUSLY hard to get off! I freakin CHIPPED my nail polish trying to get it off!! I finally gave up and started picking at it with my tweezers until it finally gave. And even then it was really hard to peel off. Ridiculous.

e.l.f. Mineral Booster with its ridiculously stupid sticker

Now about the actual product: to put it simply, IT. SUCKS. MAJORLY! I probably put on seven or eight layers of this stuff before getting a tiny itty bit of coverage. I was like seriously?? SERIOUSLY?!? By that point, my dry skin was even dryer and starting to flake: GROSS! Pretty obviously, I took it off in frustration about then. The *coverage* I got with the Mineral Booster was even LESS than the coverage I get with one layer of my beloved Rimmel Stay Matte Pressed Powder. Which, may I mention, costs less than this container of crap (not that the Mineral Booster was even close to being expensive). I realize this thing is supposed to be sheer, but not INVISIBLE! The e.l.f. website claims the following about the Mineral Booster:

Our Mineral Booster melts into your skin, infusing it with key vitamins A, B and E to promote healthier skin that’s noticeably silkier and smoother...[The Mineral Booster] gently absorbs oil and minimizes the appearance of wrinkles, fine lines and pores for a beautiful even finish.

Didn't do ANY of that. Nada.
Unless *melts into your skin* means *not show up at all*.
And I don't know about the absorbing oil part because I obviously didn't keep it on long enough to tell.
So pissed right now just thinking about it...

Next is the Mineral Powder Brush:

e.l.f. Powder Brush from the Minerals Collection

The brustles of this brush feels SO soft on my hands as well as on my face, but that's about the only good thing about it. It doesn't blend well, distribute powder well, or do anything else that a powder brush should do. Most of the product also disappeared into the bristles. It's hard describing how it feels while using it on my face...the closest word I can use to describe it is *floppy*. Like the bristles just sort of flop around, not blending or doing anything other than feeling soft. What works WAY better is the Powder Brush from the Studio collection, which I use every day and absolutely LOVE!! The Mineral Powder Brush is really just useless. I really hope that it isn't this way with all the brushes from the Minerals collection...

Last is the Stipple Brush:

e.l.f. Stipple Brush from the Studio Collection

I put the brush on a partially white background so both the white and black bristles are visible.

Getting straight to the point, this brush sucked as well. Notice how I didn't write *last but not least* above. The bristles are sparse and poky, and it took FOREVER blending with this thing. And I only tried it out on a small part of my face, so I don't even want to know how long it takes to blend foundation over my whole face.

Obviously, I am REALLY disappointed with all the products I tried out today. I had pretty high expectations for Mineral and Studio e.l.f. brushes based on previous purchases, but I guess not all of them are that great. So disappointing.

Have you been disappointed by e.l.f. products before?

e.l.f. products are available online at www.elfcosmetics.com and at select Target stores.

Smile for not wasting your money of these e.l.f. products like I did.
<3 Ruthe

*EDIT*: Tammy suggested in the comments below that the Mineral Booster is probably meant to be used as a finishing powder; well I took her advice and tried it as a finishing powder and it actually works pretty well. I also use it sometimes when I need to touch up my make-up in the afternoon. Thanks to Tammy for encouraging me for use this product differently! :D

Random survey for fun!

1. Do you have a favorite fruit? What is it? Watermelon all the way! (Though apples and oranges are a close second...) Except when I eat watermelon, it HAS to be cut in cubes. I REFUSE to eat watermelon still on the rind or watermelon with seeds. Well at home anyways.

2. When you were a kid, what was one thing you wanted to be when you grew up? A teacher. Then a professional piano player. Then a professional ballerina. Damn, I was indecisive.

3. Do you wear sunscreen on the rest of your body, besides your face? Nope. I know, I know, I should, it's better for my skin, blah blah blah.
Wow I'm probably gonna really regret this in a few years...

4. Name one of your go-to drugstore products. Hmm...I would have to say Jergen's Original Scent Cherry-Almond moisturizer. I use it every day after my shower. :)

5. Can you last over an hour in high heeled shoes? HELL YES!! I absolutely LOVE high heels!!! Love love LOVE them!! The only thing is, I'm pretty clumsy so when I wear high heels, I tend to get my heel caught in something or slip on something. Then again, that also happens when I'm wearing normal shoes...Also I ALWAYS somehow get my heels all beat up. Like once I wore almost-new heels for a night out with my friends and when I got back, the heels had scratches and little dents on them! I didn't even know what I did for that to happen!

Almay Good Apple

As many of you already know, today is Martin Luther King Jr.'s birthday. He was such an amazing man, fighting for the advancement of civil rights. Please take a moment today just to appreciate all Martin Luther King Jr. has fought for and accomplished.

So for this manicure I actually used one of my early nail polishes, which I have had for a ridiculously long time! It's called Almay Grow Healthy Good Apple from back when Almay actually made nail polishes. Even though it's really old, it still works great. Today is all foggy so I couldn't get sunlight pictures:

Almay Good Apple, outdoor

I also love how this color looks against dark blue jeans:

Almay Good Apple is a classic medium red creme. I absolutely LOVE this color; it's my favorite medium red! It's darker and less bright than shown in the pictures. Opaque in two coats, though I did three on my thumb to cover a mistake :P.

My favorite thing about this polish is that there is a hidden shimmer. I just love looking for it because it's so subtle! Usually I like totally *BAM*, out-there shimmer/sparkle, but I think for this red, the subtle shimmer is PERFECT!

Unfortunately Almay no longer makes nail polishes :(. Do you want Almay to start making them again?

Little thing to smile for today: amazing red cremes! :D

French Manicure Variation

So I haven't posted in FOREVER, so sorry about that! :(

This manicure was SO quick, didn't take long at all. That's the thing I love about French manicures: they dry so much more quickly than normal manicures!

I am STILL loving the blue from last week, but I felt like being creative so I basically did a blue French manicure with silver dots:

Indoor, natural light

Outdoor, shade

Outdoor, sun

BTW, sorry about the stained nails and cuticles. Dark colors are a pain in the derierre sometimes during removal...

So I did a French manicure with NYC Skin Tight Denim and then added dots with Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Celeb City. I really like this manicure. Simple and cute, this manicure is really great if you don't have a lot of time to do your nails. I think I'm getting more interested in French manicure variations...maybe I'll try more soon... ;)

Do you like French manicure variations? Have you tried any yourself?

NYC nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $1.
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $3.

Little thing to smile for today: creative French manicures! :D

NYC Skin Tight Denim

So I decided to go back to short nails. I cry a little bit on the inside since long nails were so fun...Anyways, I also decided do file my nails square for the first time. Or as square as I could get them since they were filed round...I went a little too short on some of the nails, though :(

As much as I hate to admit it, the grape manicure from Tuesday was driving me CRAZY! I don't know how or when it happened, but one day I just realized that I hated my manicure. What a disappointment :(

So the nail color I decided to go with today was NYC Skin Tight Denim:

NYC Skin Tight Denim, indoor, artificial light

NYC Skin Tight Denim, indoor, artificial light

NYC Skin Tight Denim, indoor, flash

I've had this polish for awhile, but I never get tired of this color! It's SO pretty!! Also, the polish is only a buck! Score! :D
I did my nails pretty late today and the sun has long gone down, so I wasn't able to take pictures in outside light.

NYC Skin Tight Denim is a vibrant, shimmery dark cobalt blue. The color looks different at different angles and in different light. Absolutely LOVE LOVE LOVE this color!

I cut my nails pretty short, yet they still look pretty long in the pictures...hmm. And see the new *squareness*? I think I like round nails better than square. Square nails look good, I have to say, but I just think they feel sort of uncomfortable, if that makes any sense...Also having round nails is more fun, though I can't say how :)

Do you like square nails or round nails better? Short or long?

NYC nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $1.

Little thing to smile for today: amazingly pretty cobalt nail polish (for a freakin buck!)

Natasha Bedingfield is stuck in my head!

You know when you have a song in your head that you just can't freakin get out?? After watching Easy A a while back, Natasha Bedingfield's song "Pocket Full of Sunshine" just won't go away. But it's such a great song that I don't really mind:

Quick post - New nail polishes!

I REALLY need to stop doing this. It isn't healthy. It's bad for me. And my wallet. I GOTTA STOP!!!

Picked up more nail polishes today. I cry with shame...Yet at the same time I dance with happiness like a crazy person!! :D

My amazing friend NM gave me a mug for Christmas that TOTALLY describes me:

Love it! Lol :P

So today I couldn't help myself (what's new?) and got two OPI nail polishes: Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous and Yodel Me On My Cell, both from the Swiss collection. I seriously hate both names, but the colors are SO PRETTY!! Take a look:

OPI Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous (left) and OPI Yodel Me On My Cell (right)

Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous (left) and Yodel Me On My Cell (right), close up

Do you see the awesome prettyness?? My favorite color is blue/teal/turquoise so OF COURSE I had to get Yodel Me On My Cell and Lucerne-tainly Look Marvelous was so pretty I just had to get it!! :D

Random comment: Remember my grape manicure from yesterday? Well the grape smell is still quite strong. After I took a shower and washed my hands a billion times. Still *grapey*. I do have to admit, it's getting a little annoying. Juuustt a little...

Are you a part-time or full-time shopaholic? Do you have constant urges to buy *pretty* makeup all the time?

OPI nail polishes are available for about $8.50 at select stores and salons.

Little thing to smile for today: shopaholics unite! :D
<3 Ruthe

(P.S. LoL this post totally makes me think about Confessions of a Shopaholic. Remember that chant, "My will is strong, my wallet is closed, I do not want to shop"?? I think I need to mentally chant that more often...)

Grape Manicure - Revlon Grape Icy with Revlon Galaxy

So today I just couldn't sit around and NOT do my nails with amazingly pretty new nail polish taunting me! I resisted until this afternoon, and then I caved. I used two of my new polishes from my latest haul.

I present to you, Revlon Grape Icy with Revlon Galaxy on top:

Revlon Grape Icy with Revlon Galaxy, indoor, natural light
This first picture is really blurry, but it was the only picture where the color was accurate.

Grape Icy with Galaxy, indoor, flash

Grape Icy with Galaxy, outdoor, shade
Grape Icy with Galaxy, outdoor, sun

Grape Icy with Galaxy, outdoor, sun

If you haven't noticed already, I took these pictures in the late afternoon while the sun was going down, so the color of the outdoor pictures are really off. The actual color is pinker than the shade pictures but less bright and less pink than the sun pictures. The first and second picture are pretty accurate, the flash picture is just a little bright.

Revlon Grape Icy is a an awesome shimmery pinkish grape purple. Wow that was hard to describe. It's SO pretty, I love it!! Revlon Galaxy is a top coat with small black, holographic, and dark blurple glitter and big hexagon-shaped holographic glitter. Pure awesomeness!! I did three coats of Grape Icy and two coats of Galaxy.

Grape Icy is really thin, so the first two coats were pretty uneven and sheer, but after the third coat the color really came out and POPPED! So pretty! This might sound weird, but Galaxy was so fun to put on! It was almost exciting to see where each big piece of hexagon glitter would go! LOL :P

If you read my post on my latest haul, then you know that Grape Icy is grape-scented. I assumed that the grape scent would be covered by the two coats of Galaxy and the top coat that I put on. What absolutely cracks me up is that after three coats of polish on top of Grape Icy, MY NAILS STILL SMELL LIKE GRAPE!! Hilarious. This nail polish is awesome! :D

Here are the nail polishes that I used:

Revlon Grape Icy (left) and Revlon Galaxy (right)
I absolutely love this manicure!! First manicure of the year! :D

Have you ever tried scented nail polish? What do you think about it?

Revlon nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $5.

Smile for grape-colored AND scented nail polish!

Drugstore Makeup Haul

Yay the weather has been amazing and sunny and nice!! Finally! :D

So yesterday I spent the ENTIRE day shopping! It was quite awesome :D. And tiring. But mostly awesome ;) I got some clothes, shoes, skin care stuff, nail care stuff, and OF COURSE, makeup!!

I got four Revlon nail polishes, a Revlon mascara, a Revlon eyeshadow (it came with the mascara), a Rimmel mascara, a Rimmel eyeliner, and two Liplicious lip glosses. I also included a Buxom lip gloss that I got two days ago (on Sunday).

Revlon polishes:

Grape Icy (left) and Bubble Gum (right)
As you can see on the label, these nail polishes are "scented when dry." This isn't why I bought these two polishes, but it did crack me up a bit. Like seriously?? SCENTED nail polish?? So obviously when I got home I just swiped a bit of each color on a piece of paper and when they were dry, they actually were scented! Obviously, Grape Icy smelled like grape and Bubble Gum smelled like bubble gum, thought it was more like *fruity* grape and *fruity* bubblegum, if that makes any sense at all...The scent is actually kind of strong, but I'm pretty sure I won't smell it anyways when I do my nails because the smell of the top coat will cover the scents. Oh well.

Star (left) and Galaxy (right)

Aren't these FREAKIN AWESOME?!?? I saw them and freaked out a little bit. I would have freaked out a lot but then everyone else in the store would have stared at me....hehe. Anyways so Star and Galaxy may sorta look like the same thing, but Star is has more silver microglitter while Galaxy has more holographic microglitter. Both have black microglitter as well as the amazing hexagon-shaped holo glitter that makes me go absolutely gaga for them!! :D

Other stuff:

Revlon Grow Luscious mascara in Blackest Black and Revlon Luxorious Color perle eyeshadow in Lilac Shimmer

Rimmel The Max Volume Flash mascara in Black and Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal eyeliner in Jet Black

I have tried Rimmel Soft Kohl Kajal eyeliners in the past; they're alright. They go on pretty smoothly, but they smudge quite easily. I like them, though, so I got another one.

Liplicious lip glosses in Orange Kiss (above) and Blue Colada (below)

And this is the Buxom lip gloss I got on Sunday:

Buxom Big and Healthy Lip Polish in Dolly
Dolly actually looks, well, kind of ugly in the tube. Like a dead, old *mauve-ish* pink. I never thought I would actually like it until I actually tried it on. SO PRETTY!! :D

I absolutely LOVE Buxom lip glosses!! They're pretty, smooth, and absolutely amazing!! I usually try to avoid lip plumpers (I didn't know Buxom glosses were lip plumping until after I bought my first one :P) but these are wonderfully tingly and, truthfully, I don't notice any lip plumping. Like all lip glosses, Buxom glosses obviously make my lips look fuller and smoother, but I don't think my lips look any *plumper*.

My first Buxom gloss was Krystal, which I got in June of 2010. I don't really know why I bought a clear gloss, but I'm glad I did; Krystal is awesome! My second Buxom gloss was Sugar, which I got last month (December of 2010).

Here are all of my Buxom glosses:

From left: Dolly, Sugar, Krystal

Swatches/reviews to come!

Have you tried any of the products from this haul? How do you like them?

Revlon nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $5.
Revlon Grow Luscious mascara is available at drugstores for about $9.
Revlon Luxorious Color eyeshadows are available at drugstores for about $5.
