NYC Wing It Wine

Another cheapie favorite! NYC Wing It Wine:

The first pic is really reflective, but it's color-accurate. The second pic is just for showing off the shimmer :D. These pics were taken after one day of wear, so there's some really minor tip wear.

NYC Wing It Wine is a deep wine that leans burgundy in the sun. It also has red shimmer, which really makes this polish pop in the sun. I think this was the first polish that made me go *OMG LOVE!!*, which makes me realize how old this polish is...Wow. Opaque in two smooth, easy coats.

Once again, I just have to express how much I absolutely LOVE NYC polishes!! Available in a variety of colors, great formula, great dry time, and REALLY easy on my wallet: what's not to love??

Also a random little thing: today I picked up the third polish from the new Revlon Metallics trio (here are the other two). Take a look at Copper Penny:

It's so awesomely metallic that I couldn't even get a picture without that huge glare!! AMAZINGNESS!! :DD
But again, Revlon, real creative job on the name. I guess it fits in with the whole money theme, but still. Real creative.

Little thing to smile for today: classic vampy polishes!! :D

(P.S. As you can tell from the pics, it's sunny again!! YAY!! :DD It's supposed to be all sunny and nice this week; I'm really hoping it actually is! :D)

Love this song!! :D

Last year I really got into Ricky Martin's music, and ALL DAY today I've been listening to his new song that was released back in January of this year. It's stuck in my head and I love it!!

Survey :)

1. How are you? Pretty good. This week was pretty relaxing :)

2. Do you like oatmeal? Yes! I don't eat it that often because I don't eat breakfast a lot but when I actually do, oatmeal is always so comforting (especially on cold mornings!) :).

3. How's the weather? Crazy as CRAP!! It was POURING and WINDY AS HECK on Thursday (almost destroying my umbrella) and then these last two days it's been alternating between pouring and letting up.

4. How often do you stretch? Um, never.

5. Lip balm of choice? Either Rosebud Perfume Co. Strawberry Lip Balm or C.O. Bigelow Lemon Lip Balm.

6. Do you line your lower waterline? What color do you use? Always. Most often, I use black, but I also use grey, brown, teal, and turquoise.

7. Any weekend plans? I need to finish some artwork for a CD cover for the band Devil in the Machine. They're pretty awesome, BTW.

Rimmel Crushed Pearl

The weather is BIPOLAR!! It was sunny for the most part today, but it was also super windy and it then POURED rain in the afternoon. For about 30 seconds. And then it stopped. WTH??

Anyways, onto the nails: I went with Rimmel Crushed Pearl from my last haul. It looks really different in various lights and it's seriously hard to describe, so here's a bunch of pics:

I got another cut on my cuticle, so that's why the virtual band-aids are back.

Rimmel Crushed Pearl is a very pale, iridescent, pearly pink with lilac-pink shimmer that gives it a unique, almost duochrome pop; as shown in the pics, it looks prominently lilac-pink where the light hits it, but there's kind of a greyish duochrome, as shown in the bottle and in the last pic. The lilac shimmer and iridescence almost makes this polish look glowing; when I look at it I always think of moonstones. Most of the time, Crushed Pearl looks like it does in the last pic.

As interesting as this polish is, I think it's a total fail on me; it totally clashes with my skin tone! I think it would look way better on someone with dark skin. Formula-wise, Crushed Pearl was pretty great, but I still prefer my other Rimmel polish for some reason (not just because of the color). Opaque in two coats, but three got rid of VNL and made the color pop.

What do you think about this color? Weird or awesome?

Little thing to smile for today: white chocolate!! (eating some Godiva vanilla bean white chocolate right now *angels sing*!! :D)

Random New Stuff :)

Even though it was raining like HECK yesterday, I went shopping all day. I got a lot of new clothes and jewelry (my left hand is sore from trying on bangles - seriously!! ;P) and, of course, a few new nail polishes. I'm also including some nail stuff I got last week.

So first up is last week's stuff:

Sally Hansen Instant Cuticle Remover
I've heard that this cuticle remover is really good, but truthfully, it freaks me out and I'm not even really sure why I got it. It just seems so chemical-y and scary. To be honest, I might just return it.

CVS Brand hand and nail lotion
This stuff is actually pretty awesome. It absorbs really quickly and moisturizes really well without over-moisturizing (a MAJOR pet peeve of mine regarding lotions/creams!). The scent is sort of old-fashioned, but it's not bad; it's actually pretty pleasant.

Now the stuff from yesterday:

Rimmel Crushed Pearl
I'm actually pretty surprised with myself for getting this, as I usually don't like really pale colors, but this polish just called out to me. And you know I'm not one to resist the call of nail polish...
Rimmel came out with new nail polish colors!! Yayy :D!! Like I talked about in this post, I absolutely LOVE Rimmel polishes! But even though they came out with new colors, the selection is still pretty limited. The two new colors that caught my eye were this one and this other coral-y orange color that I wasn't too sure about. I was shopping with my friend, and when I asked her which one(s) I should get, she said the coral-orange one was too *been there, done that * for me, so I just got this one. Thanks NM for your (as always) genius help!! :D

Revlon Silver Dollar (left) and Revlon Gold Coin (right)
Good job, Revlon. Real creative names.
But names aside, these two polishes are GORGEOUS!!! They are both jam-packed with absolutely amazing shimmer that makes them awesomely, almost coarsely metallic (if that makes sense...). When I saw these, I just POUNCED!! So awesome...

I really need to buy some more storage bin-thingies for my polishes. Right now, the ones that don't fit are just lying around in random places. I feel so bad because I feel like I'm making them feel unloved :(.

How do you store your polishes? How many of you guys use Helmers for nail polish storage? (I know a lot of people do this, but I"m not sure if I want to...)

Little thing to smile for today: new nail polishes and shopping with your best friend! :D

Revlon Bubble Gum

I don't know why, but I decided to go bright (of course) and pink with my nails:

The color in real life is a bit less neon, like the bottle color.

Revlon Bubble Gum is a bright pink creme. It is one of Revlon's scented nail polishes, but seeing as I'm sick, I can't really smell the bubble gum scent...which probably is a blessing. The polish was actually really smooth and super pigmented. Opaque at two easy coats, even though there's a tiiiiiny little bit of VNL if you look reeeeaaally close at my actual nails (it doesn't show up in the pic). I actually liked the color way more than I was expecting. I think this hue of pink compliments my skin color really well (once again, the color in real life is kind of different than shown in the pic). I'm really surprised and pleased with this polish :D.

What do you think about bright pink nail polish? What about scented nail polish?

Revlon nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $5.

Smile for bright pink nails!! :D

Survey for fun! :D

1. Chocolate or vanilla? Vanilla!! I don't like chocolate...*protects face from barrage of truffles thrown by chocoholic mob*

2. Current lip product obsession? Bare Escentuals Buxom Big & Healthy Lip Polish in Sugar. So pretty and shimmery and tingly...

3. Do you wear glasses or contacts? Yes. I wear glasses 98% of the time, and then I occasionally wear contacts when I feel like it.

4. Do you get weekly manicures? Nope. Truthfully, I don't really like getting manicures. They always put too much lotion on my hands (it feels SOO gross!!) and I hate the warm moist towel thing afterwards. *Shudders*.

5. Name one product on your beauty wish list. OPI Here Today...Aragon Tomorrow. I LITERALLY picked it up when I went shopping this morning...and then put it down and left. Now I'm TOTALLy regretting it. BAD Ruthe, BAD!!

Pure Ice Celestial

After the neutral nails from last week, I had to go back to something more comfortable and familiar, like something blue and brightish:

BTW my middle and pinky nails are shorter because I broke both nails. Actually, I broke my pinky nail twice. *Cry*.

Pure Ice Celestial is a medium true blue that leans sliiiiiightly cerulean. Opaque in two coats. It was pretty brush-strokey, but the top coat kinda hid it.

Pure Ice polishes are pretty great for two bucks, but man, I just don't like the brush. But whatevs, it's usable.

Have you tried Pure Ice polishes? What's your favorite cheapie polish?

Pure Ice nail polishes are available at select stores and drugstores for about $2.

Tagged! :D

I was meaning to post this a few days ago, but I got Pink Eye (eewww) so I've been feeling really sick and gross.

So on Tuesday, I got tagged by Tammy of Lazy Beautiful (thanks Tammy! :D)!! Basically the rules are to answer these questions on a piece of paper:

1. What's your name/your blogger name?
2. What's your blog's name/URL?
3. Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
4. Favorite quote?
5. Your favorite song?
6. Your favorite band/singers?
7. Anything else you want to say?
8. Tag three to five other people.

Here's my answers (and as with all my pics, click to enlarge):

I really love how this tag lets you see people's actual handwriting. Handwriting really shows a lot about a person. I think. Well it's interesting anyways matching a person to their handwriting. I'll shut up about handwriting now.

I only tagged three people, but anyone who reads this is tagged too! Put a pic of your answers in the comments below:

1. What's your name/your blogger name?
2. What's your blog's name/URL?
3. Write "The quick brown fox jumps over the lazy dog."
4. Favorite quote?
5. Your favorite song?
6. Your favorite band/singers?
7. Anything else you want to say?
8. Tag three to five other people.

Ok wait, I'm not really sure if you can put pics in the comments, so if you can't, email your answers to me at ruthe_ee@yahoo.com. If I get enough, I might post them :). Or if you're feeling lazy and want to be a party pooper, just type your answers in the comments.

Survey :)

Ugghhh this weekend is just killing me!! I'm sick and I've been busy as HELL; for once in my life I don't have time to do my nails :'(. Plus I totally forgot about Daylight Savings so I started out totally late today!! FML.

1. Coffee or tea? Tea. Because coffee is just GROSS.

2. Have you ever used any treatments that condition and/or grow eyelashes? Thoughts on them? Nope, never used them, probably never will. To be honest, eyelash treatments kind of freak me out. I don't know why, but they just do.

3. What's your current go-to concealer? Make Up For Ever HD Invisible Cover Concealer. Complete amazingness!! :D

4. Pretzel dip of choice? Umm...none. Call me boring, but I'm like my pretzels plain. :)

Rimmel Steel Grey Wear Test

Today was a terrible day. Just effing horrible. It was going okay and then everything just went downhill. Anyways...

My NOTW (Nail of the Week) was a polish from my last haul: Rimmel Steel Grey:

Rimmel Steel Grey, indoor

As described in the haul post, Rimmel Steel Grey is a slightly purplish, greyish-brown taupe and is my first neutral polish (awesome intro to neutrals!! :D). It is more grey in real life than in the picture.

This polish got me luvin' neutrals! Neutral polishes just feel so different, like almost *comfortable*, if that makes any sense. After wearing Steel Grey, however, I'm more than ready to go back to some flashier colors, but I'll definitely be sporting neutral nails more often in the future ;).

Application was AMAZING: the formula was really smooth and opaque in two coats, and the brush was absolutely AWESOME!! I mentioned in the haul post that the brush is really fat, like the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri brushes, but the Rimmel brush somehow just works amazingly!!! Also, the polish itself is really shiny and just awesome-looking!

I decided to do a wear test because this polish is supposed to last up to ten days (as claimed on the bottle). Obviously, I didn't expect it to last ten days, but I was expecting around four or five. For the wear test, I didn't use a top coat (just a basecoat and two coats of Steel Grey) and I didn't wrap my tips. The picture above shows my nails on Monday after one day of wear (I did my nails Sunday night). You can't really tell in the picture, but there's pretty significant tip wear after just one day. Here is Steel Grey after five days (today, aka Friday):

Left hand, outdoor

Right hand, outdoor

Damn!! Can you say chip-mania?!? Steel Grey started chipping on the second day and then after that, it just kept on chippin'. I felt like SUCH an abomination wearing chipped nail polish, but I knew I had to stick it out until today. And just an FYI, the outdoor pictures are pretty dead-on colorwise.

So obviously, this polish isn't what you would call *long-wearing*, but the application and brush are just so amazing I'm probably gonna overlook the poor durability. Besides, I usually get bored of my nail polish after a few days anyway :).

Have you tried Rimmel polishes before? Did you get major tip wear/chipping?

Rimmel nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $4.

Little thing to smile for today: neutral nails! :D

Quick story - Worst haircut experience EVER!!

I decided a week or so ago (haha that rhymes...) that I wanted to cut off all of my long hair (like I said in this post). Okay well not ALL of it, you know what I mean...I was getting a little tired of my long hair and the last time I went short was the summer of 2009, so I decided it was time to chop it off.

So yesterday I went to the hair place I usually go to and told my usual guy to cut my hair way shorter but to keep the same style. This guy usually does a pretty decent job with my usual trim, but apparently he's incapable of DOING ANYTHING ELSE. Basically he got the *way shorter* part, but not the *same style* part. Long story short, IT LOOKED LIKE CRAP. Maybe he fucked it up because he could BARELY UNDERSTAND ENGLISH and therefore couldn't understand all the crap I was saying to him, but hey, either way, IT LOOKED LIKE CRAP. So I told him to fix it and I tried to describe the way I wanted it to look. I even emphasized the shape I wanted it a bajillion times with my hands (the other people waiting probably thought I was insane...) but guess what? HE EFFED IT UP EVEN MORE!!! By that point I was just like EFF THIS and went home.

When I got home, I used about a liter of hair product trying to make my hair look decent at least for today, but nothing worked, so I just put it in a ponytail. Needless to say, at this point I was frustrated as HELL and was about to have a total emotional breakdown.

Skipping past all the screaming and freaking out, I made an appointment today at another salon and got it fixed. My hair looks WAY better, even though it's an inch or two shorter than I had intended. But hey, that's what I have to sacrifice to get it fixed. At least it looks good enough for me to not want to wear a paper bag over my head.

Well. That was a waste of $90.

I miss my long hair.

What was your worst hair cut/styling experience?

Turquoise blue comparison

I have a bunch of turquoise blue nail polishes because, as I've mentioned so many time before, my favorite color is blue/turquoise/teal (anything along those lines). So here's a comparison of a few similar ones:

From left: Sinful Colors Love Nails, Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear Marine Scene, Sally Hansen Insta-Dri Blue Streak, Sinful Colors Gorgeous

In the bottle, these all look really different, but on the nail, they look a bit more similar:

In the shade:

The shade picture is pretty color-accurate. The colors on each nail are in the same order as the bottle pic. Each one was three coats, but all of them needed a fourth to get rid of VNL.

Sinful Colors Love Nails is the most blue-leaning, and Sinful Colors Gorgeous is the most green-leaning. Sally Hansen Marine Scene is more blue than Sally Hansen Blue Streak, which is more green. Love Nails is definitely the most vibrant. Blue Streak had the best application, and Marine Scene, being an Xteme Wear polish, had the worst application (read my rant about how why Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear polishes suck in the middle of this post). All of them dried to the same shimmery finish, though Gorgeous sometimes looks a little metallic.

All of these are gorgeous (obviously! they're turquoise!!! ;D) but my favorite has to be Love Nails because of how vibrant it is.

Do you like turquoise polishes? Which one is your favorite?

Sinful Colors nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $2.
Sally Hansen Xtreme Wear nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $3.
Sally Hansen Insta-Dri nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $5.

Smile for awesome turquoise polishes!! :D

Another drugstore mini-haul + Swatches! :D

Yaayyy new nail polish!! :DD

Sinful Colors: from left, Love Nails, Gorgeous, Rise and Shine, and Mint Apple
I just can't resist blues. Or turquoises. Or teals. Or any blue-tinted greens.

Sally Hansen Color Quick nail color pen in Green Chrome, Rimmel Steel Grey, Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Pink Sapphire
Why is the Rimmel polish called Steel Grey?? That is SO not grey...

I did a quick, messy swatch of every color except for the nail polish pen and two of the Sinful Colors polishes (which will be in my next post):

From left: Sally Hansen Pink Sapphire, Rimmel Steel Grey, Sinful Colors Rise and Shine, Sinful Colors Mint Apple

In a different light:

Sorry for the ravaged cuticles, btw.

Sally Hansen Hard As Nails Pink Sapphire: Warm medium pink with pink and silver sparkles. SO pretty :D!! Opaque in three coats, but it needed a fourth to get rid of VNL.

Rimmel Steel Grey: Purplish, greyish-brown taupe. Opaque in two smooth, easy coats. This is my first neutral nail polish! I was initially against neutral polishes, but they look so *comfortable* I just got sucked in. This is also my first Rimmel polish; I've been wanting to try them out for forever! Pretty awesome formula, okay drying time, and FAT brush. It's pretty much exactly the same as the brush in the Sally Hansen Insta-Dri polishes.

Sinful Colors Rise and Shine: Deep turquoise green with subtle shimmer. REALLY pretty!! Opaque in two coats, but I did three because I messed up (see that huge lump?). Randomly, this polish dried to a satin finish. It kind of gives the shimmer a cool look, but I don't like it. It's definitely not a problem though; a top coat will add shine :).

Sinful Colors Mint Apple: Blue-leaning mint green with silver shimmer. Opaque in three coats, but I did four because I also messed up on this nail. I was never really into mint greens, but I got sucked into the mint green trend (along with the neutral trend) with this haul.

These colors are ALL SO gorgeous and I absolutely LOVE all of them!! :D

Do you like neutral polishes? How about mint greens?

Sinful Colors nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $2.
Sally Hansen Color Quick nail color pens are available at drugstores for about $9.
Rimmel nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $4.
Sally Hansen Hard As Nails nail polishes are available at drugstores for about $3.

Little thing to smile for today: great drugstore nail polishes!! :D

New polishes from China! :D

My mom returned from a trip to China yesterday. While she was there, I asked her to bring me back some nail polishes so I can try them out. She brought back these three for me:

This polish was nameless, both brand-wise and color-wise. It is a glitter top coat with both large and small bright blue hexagonal glitter. Pretty!! :D

Next:

AR Nail Polish #39
Here's another picture so you can see the actual color:

Side View
AR Nail Polish #39 is a silvery violet. Very pretty! Actually, this is basically a lighter version of my New Year's Eve Midnight franken.

Last but TOTALLY not least:

Shengji #39
A closeup of the color:

Absolute gorgeousness!! Shengji #39 is a blue-tinted clear base with blue and gold microflakies!! When I first saw it, I immediately swiped it quickly on my nail; on the nail, the tiny little flakies look holo! Absolutely freakin' awesome!!! :DD

Random little observation, but these nail polishes smell different than my other nail polishes (should I call them my normal polishes? U.S. polishes??). Also (except for the silvery violet one) they are a little thicker than my other ones.

Have you bought nail polish from other countries? How are they different?

Smile for exotic nail polishes! :D
